Souk Ahras Emerges as a New Hub for Cork Production

Souk Ahras province recorded a production of 3314 quintals of cork in 2026, strengthening its position in the industry. Ahmed Garfi, a forestry official, stated that the harvest covered 1792 hectares in the 'Fedj El Amd' forest within the Ouled Driss municipality. The harvesting campaign, managed by the regional rural engineering enterprise 'Babour', generated 40 seasonal jobs for local youth. Furthermore, the province continues to expand its forest resources, having planted approximately 180 hectares of cork oak trees since 2014 in the municipalities of Mechroha and Aïn Zana, aimed at restoring areas damaged by wildfires.
