Sahara Blend leads OPEC basket as prices surge

The Algerian crude Sahara Blend recorded a significant price increase in September 2026, reaching 118.49 dollars per barrel, a growth of approximately 26% compared to August. According to the latest monthly OPEC report, this surge places the Algerian grade at the top of the organization's reference basket, outperforming other benchmarks like Nigeria's Bonny Light and Libya's Es Sider. Throughout the first nine months of 2026, the average price hit 96.95 dollars per barrel, up 36% compared to the same period in 2025. This upward momentum persists amid global supply disruptions, despite OPEC consistently lowering its global oil demand growth forecasts for the sixth consecutive month.
