Shooting in Trappes: French authorities launch terror investigation amid racial tensions
A deadly shooting in the city of Trappes, west of Paris, has left one person dead and five others injured, including a 12-year-old girl. A 39-year-old suspect, already known to law enforcement, was arrested following the attack. The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office has taken charge of the investigation. While Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin classified the act as clearly terrorist in nature, local officials, including Mayor Ali Rabeh, highlighted a racist motive, suggesting the perpetrator targeted victims based on their religion and ethnic background. President Emmanuel Macron condemned the violence and thanked the police for the swift arrest. The incident unfolds during a period of heightened national tension and public unrest in France. Furthermore, several political circles have pointed to the role of certain media groups in fueling hostility and hate speech directed at immigrants and Muslims.
