French MP reports Éric Zemmour to prosecutors over hate speech accusations

Antoine Léaument, a member of the La France Insoumise party, has referred comments made by far-right leader Éric Zemmour to the public prosecutor. During recent protests against the cost of living that began on October 17, Zemmour described those involved in rioting as a "horde of North African and African barbarians," linking the violence to the "Great Replacement" theory. Léaument condemned these remarks on X, accusing Zemmour of inciting racial hatred. Zemmour has publicly demanded harsh judicial and police crackdowns, refusing to categorize the perpetrators as fellow citizens. The controversy has reached the national audiovisual regulator, Arcom, which received complaints regarding the politician's discourse, particularly his focus on ethnic backgrounds in the context of recent unrest.
