Boughadèche: Empowering women in decision-making is a strategic national goal for Algeria

President of the National People's Assembly, Khalida Boughadèche, has affirmed that fostering the political participation of Algerian women is a key strategic priority. Speaking at the first national seminar on women's political engagement held at the National School of Hotel and Tourism in Aïn Benian, Boughadèche stated that the state views women's inclusion as essential to strengthening democratic practices. She highlighted that the 2020 Constitution solidifies the commitment to women's political rights, noting that electoral reforms are designed to ensure qualified women actively contribute to public policy-making rather than just filling quotas. Boughadèche described her own historic role as the first woman to lead the National People's Assembly as evidence of the growing space for female expertise in high-level state institutions, calling for a substantive rather than symbolic presence of women in shaping the nation's future.
