European project uses satellite technology to monitor desertification in Algeria
Algerian researcher Imad Eddine Bouzenad, of the Algerian Association for Earth Sciences and Remote Sensing, briefed the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari, on the European "NEMESIS" project. Supported by the "Horizon Europe" program and featuring participation from the 8 May 1945 University of Guelma, the project aims to deploy space technology to detect drought and soil degradation across Algerian provinces. The initiative utilizes the "Google Earth Engine" platform to develop a digital application that processes 25 years of satellite imagery. By monitoring vegetation cover and environmental changes, this tool provides scientific data to support decision-making in natural resource management and sustainable development.
