Algeria reaffirms its commitment to freedom of worship for non-Muslims

The National Commission for Religious Rites of Non-Muslims has reaffirmed Algeria's commitment to protecting freedom of belief and ensuring the practice of religious rites within the framework of the law. During a meeting chaired by the Minister of Religious Affairs, Youcef Belmehdi, the committee addressed concerns raised by religious associations in accordance with Ordinance 06-02. The commission emphasized that national legislation aligns with international conventions and that the State is responsible for protecting places of worship from political or ideological influence. Furthermore, the committee warned against misinformation regarding religious practices in the country, highlighting Algeria’s historical commitment to tolerance, a value recently exemplified by the Pope's visit.
