PETA urges Crystal Palace to stop using live eagles as mascots

Animal rights group PETA has called on English football club Crystal Palace to cease the practice of featuring live bald eagles as mascots at Selhurst Park stadium. In a letter sent to the club's CEO, Sharon Lacey, the organization argued that the loud, crowded stadium environment is inherently stressful and confusing for the birds, which are naturally accustomed to vast spaces and avoiding human contact. The group highlighted various incidents, including birds flying into glass windows, attacking spectators with their talons, and a 2015 altercation involving a fan. PETA asserts that because the club already utilizes a human mascot to entertain the crowd, there is no justification for subjecting wild animals to such conditions, and they have requested a permanent end to the practice.
