For Olympic champion Kaylia Nemour, representing Algeria since 2022 has been a journey far beyond the gymnasium. As she shared in the program "ORIGINS," her decision served as a bridge that reconnected her estranged paternal family. Her father, a native of the Jijel province who had not returned to Algeria for years, was able to reconnect with relatives thanks to the communication fostered by Kaylia’s international career, which included the creation of a family WhatsApp group and a trip back home. Although she initially feared she might be viewed as an outsider by her national teammates, Nemour was embraced by the staff and athletes from her very first experience at the Arab Championships in Oran. Following her historic gold medal win at the Paris 2024 Olympics—making her the first African and Arab gymnast to achieve such a feat—Nemour continues to deepen her bond with her ancestral land, finding both personal and professional fulfillment.
