European diplomats attacked by settlers in the West Bank

A European diplomatic delegation, including Bernard Baudoux, the 78-year-old mayor of Aulnoy-lez-Valenciennes, France, was assaulted by settlers on Saturday during a visit to the West Bank village of Taybeh. Baudoux was struck with iron bars while visiting to sign a cooperation agreement. Witnesses noted that the settlers were also obstructing Palestinians during the olive harvest. The Israeli Foreign Minister condemned the attack, while Belgium reported damage to a diplomatic vehicle caused by masked settlers. Israeli police have launched an investigation into the incident. The attack highlights the rising violence against Palestinians and international observers in the region since the 2023 Gaza war, amidst growing criticism regarding the lack of accountability for settler violence.
