The official store of the French football club Lille was looted and vandalized this past Saturday during student-led demonstrations that also drew support from the 'Yellow Vests' movement, unions, and farmers protesting against the cost of living. Footage captured the store's glass front collapsing onto a passerby, who was left unconscious. The incident occurred on the same day Lille played Brest in the French league. Elsewhere in the city, protesters briefly stormed the town hall and looted an Apple store. Several prominent French athletes, such as basketball star Victor Wembanyama and judoka Teddy Riner, expressed support for the youth movement while condemning the associated violence. Meanwhile, national sports ethics boards have issued statements calling for football to remain neutral regarding ongoing political and social activism.
