The Algerian national weightlifting team secured a historic total of 122 medals during the Arab and African Championships held in Mostaganem. The event, which featured athletes from 29 countries, saw the Algerian team earn 47 gold, 22 silver, and 53 bronze medals. Algeria claimed the Arab title in the senior category and took second place in the overall ranking of both championships. The breakdown includes 68 medals from the Arab championship (32 gold, 10 silver, 26 bronze) and 54 from the African championship (15 gold, 12 silver, 27 bronze). National technical director Mohamed Bouabache noted that these achievements serve as a positive indicator of the talent and potential inherent in Algerian weightlifting.
