At the "Pharmanova Expo" in Batna, the state-owned group Saidal announced strategic initiatives to bolster national health sovereignty. CEO Younes Bouarara confirmed that a facility, the first of its kind in Africa, is being built to produce raw materials for paracetamol and aspirin. With construction 75% complete, this 6,000-square-meter plant, costing 675 million dinars, is expected to be operational within 9 months, offering a production capacity of 2,000 tons per year for domestic use and export. The roadmap also includes a unit for cardiovascular and diabetes medication (4 tons/year) and an insulin crystal unit launched in 2024 (1,500 kg/year). Furthermore, Pharmaceutical Industry Minister Ouacim Kouidri oversaw a technology transfer partnership between Pharma Invest and China’s Yangtze River group, with plans for Pharma Invest to collaborate with Saidal on high-value-added drug manufacturing.
