Souk Ahras: Criminal network targeting students and researchers dismantled

The Souk Ahras security services, working through their financial crime and cybersecurity divisions, have dismantled a criminal ring involved in fraud and money laundering. The suspects operated a Facebook page named the "Academic Center for Researcher Support," promising students and academics assistance in preparing and publishing research papers. Victims were lured into transferring funds via WhatsApp, which the gang then rerouted to third-party accounts or converted into virtual assets to disguise the origin of the money. Investigations identified 35 potential victims nationwide and uncovered evidence of identity fraud. Following the seizure of various equipment and data, the suspects were brought before the public prosecutor at the court of Taoura, who ordered them to be remanded in custody. Charges include organized electronic fraud, money laundering, and violation of currency exchange regulations.
