National Committee on Religious Rites reaffirms Algeria's commitment to freedom of worship

The National Committee for Non-Muslim Religious Rites held a meeting chaired by Minister of Religious Affairs and Wakfs, Youcef Belmehdi, to address concerns from non-Muslim religious associations. The committee highlighted that the Algerian Constitution protects the freedom of worship within the framework of national law and international human rights treaties. It was emphasized that places of worship are shielded from political or ideological influence. The committee urged the public to disregard inaccurate information spreading online regarding religious practices in the country. Furthermore, it underscored Algeria’s historical culture of coexistence, noting the significance of the Pope's visit as a testament to interfaith dialogue.
