Algerian pharmaceutical exports reach $52 million across 33 countries

Algeria's exports of pharmaceutical products and medical equipment reached approximately $52 million in 2025, reaching 33 countries, including 18 in Africa. The Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry, Wassim Kouidri, stated during a training workshop in Algiers that these figures, while encouraging, represent only a portion of the national industry's true potential. The government aims to boost export values in 2026 as part of its broader strategy to diversify the economy beyond hydrocarbons. The minister emphasized that promoting the pharmaceutical sector is a core priority of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to strengthen national health sovereignty. He also noted that the contracts finalized during the African Ministerial Conference on local medicine production held in November 2025 confirm the international confidence in Algerian-made pharmaceutical products.
