UN: Morocco votes in favor of Western Sahara self-determination resolution

On Thursday, October 15, the UN General Assembly's Fourth Committee adopted a resolution reaffirming the Sahrawi people's inalienable right to self-determination. The text, which frames the conflict as an issue of unfinished decolonization, secured the support of 152 member states. Notably, the Moroccan delegation voted "yes" on the resolution, despite initial plans to abstain, due to the overwhelming international support. Sidi Mohamed Ammar, the Polisario Front's representative to the UN, described the outcome as a firm response to Morocco's efforts to misrepresent the conflict's legal status. Additionally, the Geneva Group supporting Western Sahara advocated for a fair and lasting political solution in line with the UN Charter.
