19 Nations condemn Colombia's decision to open an embassy in Jerusalem

Eighteen Arab and Islamic countries, including Algeria, have strongly denounced Colombia’s move to open an embassy in Jerusalem. In a joint statement, foreign ministers from these nations declared the action a breach of UN Security Council resolutions and an impediment to achieving a just peace based on the two-state solution. They emphasized that any attempt to alter the legal or historical status of Jerusalem is legally invalid, citing UN resolutions 476 and 478 of 1980, which mandate that nations refrain from establishing diplomatic missions in the city. The coalition, which includes countries such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Palestine, urged the Colombian government to retract its decision and uphold international law, reaffirming the right of the Palestinian people to an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
