Algerian political parties are currently in a state of emergency following notifications from the Independent National Authority for Elections regarding the rejection of several candidate files for the upcoming November 28 local elections. Parties are rushing to find alternatives to ensure their electoral lists remain valid and avoid disqualification from the race. Following the submission of lists on October 8, the electoral authority began rigorous administrative and security checks. Under Article 183 of the electoral law, rejection decisions must be legally justified and communicated within ten days; otherwise, the candidacy is considered accepted. Rejected candidates have the right to appeal these decisions before administrative courts. Meanwhile, parties face the difficult challenge of re-composing their lists while strictly adhering to mandatory quotas for youth, university graduates, and women, adding significant pressure to an already tight schedule.
