Funding shortages force WFP to cut food aid in Gaza

The World Food Programme (WFP) announced on Monday a significant reduction in its food aid reach within Gaza due to a lack of funding, leaving 500,000 people without essential support as winter approaches. The agency now assists 1.1 million people, down from 1.6 million previously. The cuts include a reduction in food parcels, a drop in daily hot meal distribution from 250,000 to 150,000, and lower financial aid for 75,000 families. While aid to bakeries and nutrition programs for women and children remains, the WFP highlights that 1.4 million people still face acute food insecurity. The agency requires $450 million to sustain operations in Gaza and the West Bank through March 2027, as funding for Palestinian territories in 2026 has dropped to less than half of previous levels.
