The National Independent Authority for Elections (ANIE) has released its preliminary assessment of candidacy files for the upcoming November 28 local elections. Data shows a low rejection rate: out of 5,631 lists submitted for municipal assemblies (APC), only 3 were rejected, and for provincial assemblies (APW), 6 out of 434 were turned down, largely due to incomplete files or non-compliance with signature requirements. Rejections were issued based on legal criteria such as minimum age, military service status, tax compliance, criminal records, and potential conflicts of interest regarding electoral ethics. Candidates have the right to file appeals with administrative courts, and the process for replacing candidates remains open until October 28. Regarding the candidate demographic, 54.02% are under 40 years old, 11.86% are women, and 48.48% hold university degrees.
