Following a regional workshop held in Algiers by the Committee of Intelligence and Security Services of Africa (CISSA), a unified strategy was adopted to tackle drug trafficking. Key agreements include establishing a regional database for tracking contraband and suspects, and ensuring the timely exchange of intelligence. Attendees emphasized the need for upgraded border and port monitoring, as well as a robust cybersecurity framework to intercept illicit financial flows and terrorist funding. Beyond security measures, the participants highlighted the importance of addressing socio-economic drivers such as youth unemployment and poverty to prevent vulnerable populations from being exploited by criminal or extremist networks.
