Consumer behavior in Algeria is undergoing a radical shift as the traditional practice of 'Mouna', or monthly bulk stocking of groceries, is being replaced by frequent, smaller shopping trips. While families previously relied on purchasing a month's worth of supplies to ensure stability and cost-efficiency, modern retail spaces have established a new rhythm. Through promotional offers, strategic store layouts, and a wide variety of goods, consumers are now enticed to visit stores multiple times a month, often driven by discounts rather than prior planning. Furthermore, the expansion of e-commerce and home delivery services has solidified this shift, making it easier to acquire daily necessities without the need for large-scale storage. While these supermarkets allow shoppers to compare prices, the constant availability of goods and promotions often leads to unplanned spending, leaving families caught between the desire to save and the allure of constant consumption.
