King Felipe VI reaffirms Spanish sovereignty over Ceuta and Melilla

During an official visit to Ceuta and Melilla on Tuesday, King Felipe VI of Spain emphasized that both cities are an inseparable part of Spain’s national and political reality. The monarch stated that the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity are non-negotiable and must be defended against any potential threats.

King Felipe VI also noted that any threat to Ceuta represents a direct threat to the entire European Union, urging for collective European solidarity in safeguarding external borders. Regarding migration, the King called for the repatriation of those who entered illegally through formal channels, while stressing the importance of treating them with dignity and ensuring they respect civil coexistence rules.

This visit marks the first by a Spanish monarch since 2007. It takes place less than seven weeks before the snap elections scheduled for November 29, with migration expected to be a key issue during the campaign.
