Presidential directives to protect farmers and stabilize market prices

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune stated that the agricultural sector accounts for approximately 15% of the gross domestic product, announcing that national grain self-sufficiency will be achieved by the end of 2027. Addressing price fluctuations in produce, the President emphasized that staple goods such as potatoes and tomatoes must remain protected. To maintain market stability, he has instructed the government to establish a state-run entity responsible for purchasing excess produce directly from farmers. This surplus will be stored and distributed based on market demand, ensuring both the protection of farmers and price equilibrium.
