During the first half of 2026, Algeria established itself as the second-largest supplier of gasoline to France, accounting for 13.1% of French super-fuel imports according to the Professional Petroleum Committee (CPDP). The Netherlands leads the market with a 48% share, while Algeria ranks ahead of countries such as Italy and the United States. This trend reflects the development of Algerian refining capabilities, with Sonatrach reporting an output of 3.7 million tonnes of gasoline in 2024. The national company is currently expanding its infrastructure, particularly at the Arzew refinery, to further boost production capacity. Trade statistics indicate that French imports of refined petroleum products from Algeria totaled 937.3 million euros between September 2025 and August 2026, representing a 13.2% increase in value. While these imports contribute to the diversification of the French supply chain, analysts note that domestic fuel prices in France are determined by a complex combination of taxes, distribution costs, and global market fluctuations rather than solely by the origin of the fuel.
