The regional workshop of the Committee of Intelligence and Security Services of Africa (CISSA) concluded in Algiers with a consensus on launching joint operations to combat drug trafficking across North Africa. The participants agreed to develop a regional action plan aligned with the 2019-2025 African strategy, featuring a shared database to track smugglers and their activities. Key recommendations include enhancing intelligence exchange, conducting joint training for security officers, and strengthening legal mechanisms to prosecute cross-border traffickers. Furthermore, the meeting emphasized upgrading border and port monitoring systems and establishing a cybersecurity framework to prevent money laundering and terrorism financing. On the security front, participants highlighted the need for increased vigilance against terrorist movements and financing networks in the Sahel-Saharan region. Social initiatives were also promoted, urging governments to tackle unemployment and poverty to protect youth from being exploited by drug cartels and extremist groups.
