New road network maintenance and modernization projects proposed for 2027
The Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Lakhdar Rekhroukh, announced that the 2027 finance bill includes several projects aimed at upgrading and maintaining the national and regional road networks. These initiatives are designed to improve service quality, road safety, and accessibility to isolated areas.
The proposed operations include maintenance work between Khemis El Khechna and Boudouaou, as well as the rehabilitation of the Bir Touta to Khemis El Khechna section, set to begin in November. To address road degradation caused by overloaded trucks, the ministry plans to provide the National Gendarmerie with new weighing equipment to enforce weight limits.
Regarding the southern provinces, specifically Illizi, funds have been allocated to repair roads damaged by recent weather conditions. Furthermore, the 2027 budget proposal incorporates plans for the construction and modernization of regional roads to effectively link remote communities to the main infrastructure network.
