Algeria’s state-owned firm Sonatrach and the US company Occidental Petroleum have reviewed ways to enhance their collaboration in the hydrocarbons sector, specifically regarding the Berkine Basin. The talks were held on October 16, 2026, in Houston, involving Sonatrach CEO Nourredine Daoudi and Occidental CEO Richard Jackson. The agenda included technical cooperation, the use of advanced enhanced oil recovery methods, unconventional resource development, and non-metallic piping. This meeting follows a working visit by a Sonatrach delegation to the US. Both companies aim to build upon a long-standing partnership that has expanded through various contracts and technical agreements since 2022, focusing on unlocking the hydrocarbon potential within the Algerian basin.
