Several Algerian provinces experienced heavy rainfall over the weekend, leading to widespread flooding and transport disruptions. In Béjaïa, intense storms triggered mudslides on National Road 09, a situation worsened by soil erosion from previous forest fires. In the western part of the country, Sidi Bel Abbès faced significant challenges as ten municipalities were affected by the overflowing of the Oued Mekerra river, causing water to infiltrate homes and paralyze several major roads. Emergency teams were deployed to drain floodwater and rescue stranded individuals, including students trapped in a religious school. Similar rescue operations took place in Tlemcen and Béchar, where people were saved from vehicles engulfed by rising waters. The Civil Protection services continue to urge citizens to remain vigilant and avoid crossing flooded areas during this autumn season.
