Belgium has approved a legislative proposal aimed at facilitating access to the EU Blue Card for highly skilled professionals from outside the European Union. Minister for Asylum and Migration, Anneleen Van Bossuyt, announced plans to cap application processing times at 90 days to help local companies fill vacancies. While professional mobility within the EU will be eased, strict eligibility criteria regarding salary and qualifications will remain in place. Alongside these administrative improvements, the government is introducing stronger anti-fraud controls for work permits and extending the period to find new employment to six months for migrant workers who have faced serious exploitation by their employers.
