During a meeting with business leaders in Algiers on October 14, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced the objective of launching an Algerian-made vehicle by the end of 2028. This ambitious project involves partnerships with German and Italian entities and aims to go beyond assembly by incorporating locally manufactured parts, such as gearboxes and tires. The move is part of a broader industrial strategy to achieve a 30% integration rate. The foundation for this sector was laid in 2023 with the establishment of the Fiat factory in Oran. Other major global manufacturers, including Hyundai, Chery, and Opel, have also announced intentions to develop production facilities in the country. Simultaneously, local plants dedicated to the manufacturing of car bodies, brake pads, and plastic components are being developed to support this growing industry.
