The Nigerien government has denounced the decision by French authorities to expel two Nigerien diplomatic staff members last September. One of the individuals, Officer Abdoul-Razak Ibrahim Moussa Touré, suffered severe injuries during a 2014 joint mission with the French military against Boko Haram, resulting in an amputation. Niger's Minister of Justice, Alio Daouda, criticized the move, arguing that the officer deserved protection rather than expulsion alongside his family. French authorities classified the staff as intelligence operatives, while Niger maintains they were responsible for security at the embassy in Paris. This incident deepens the ongoing diplomatic crisis between Niamey and Paris, which has seen the severance of military ties and the withdrawal of French troops since 2023.
