UN Security Council Reform: Algeria calls for permanent African representation
Algeria's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Amar Bendjama, has called for an urgent structural reform of the Security Council to ensure it becomes more democratic and effective. During his address at the UN General Assembly, he highlighted the need to rectify the historical injustice regarding Africa's lack of representation. Algeria reaffirmed its support for the common African position, advocating for the allocation of at least two permanent seats with veto power, alongside five non-permanent seats, as stipulated in the Sirte Declaration. Bendjama emphasized that this is essential to enhance the credibility and legitimacy of the international body.
