The 6th session of the Algerian-Senegalese Joint Commission took place in Algiers, marking a resumption of high-level dialogue after nearly 30 years. Co-chaired by the foreign ministers of both nations, the event underscored a commitment to revitalizing bilateral mechanisms. Algerian Minister of State and Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf highlighted that existing trade volumes do not reflect the true potential of both countries and called for stronger joint investments. Efforts initiated since 2023, including the opening of an Algerian bank in Dakar, a new maritime shipping line, and a permanent product exhibition space, were cited as key steps to improve economic integration, alongside the planned reactivation of the Algerian-Senegalese Business Council. Senegal's Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs, Cheikh Niang, expressed the government's desire to transition toward a structured, result-oriented strategic partnership, emphasizing long-standing ties of trust. Both parties also affirmed their commitment to advancing African integration through the African Union and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
