Dramatic Decline in Trade Between Algeria and Morocco

Trade exchanges between Algeria and Morocco have plummeted by nearly 90% over the past five years, following the severing of diplomatic ties in August 2021. This deterioration was further impacted by the shutdown of the Maghreb-Europe Gas Pipeline in November 2021. From a total of $760 million in 2021, trade figures fell steadily to $243.9 million in 2022, $128.6 million in 2023, $88.2 million in 2024, and dropped below $80 million by 2025. Notably, Moroccan exports to Algeria have seen a near-total collapse, falling from $114.5 million in 2021 to a negligible $0.1 million in 2025.
