Algeria provides technical assistance to Niger following the Gomry W-8 oil well incident

Between October 12 and 19, 2026, Algeria dispatched a technical mission to Niger to assist in managing the aftermath of an incident at the 'Gomry W-8' oil well in the Agadem region. The team, comprising experts from the Ministry of Hydrocarbons, the Hydrocarbon Regulatory Authority, and the Sonatrach group, held discussions with Nigerian officials to assess the site and implement urgent measures to mitigate environmental consequences. The mission concluded with an audience with Niger’s Head of State, General Abdourahamane Tiani, who thanked President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for the rapid response and the deployment of Algerian technical expertise. This initiative underscores the cooperative ties between the two nations and Algeria's commitment to supporting Niger's energy sector.
