French association calls for urgent action for Gdeim Izik Sahrawi prisoners

The French association 'A tanker truck for the Sahrawis' has expressed its solidarity with the Sahrawi political prisoners of the Gdeim Izik group, who have been on an indefinite hunger strike since September 23. Meeting in Le Havre, the organization demanded the safeguarding of the prisoners' fundamental rights and the fulfillment of previous commitments made by Moroccan prison authorities regarding their proximity to their families. The association condemned the transfer of Naâma Asfari to Marrakech, citing a 2023 UN working group opinion that deemed his detention arbitrary and called for his release. These concerns will be formally submitted to the French President, the UN Secretary-General, and international human rights bodies. Beyond this immediate crisis, the organization reaffirmed its support for the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination and the implementation of UN resolutions.
