Bank of Algeria Governor calls for global financial stability amid geopolitical tensions

At the 54th International Monetary and Financial Committee meeting in Bangkok, Bank of Algeria Governor Mohand Bouray emphasized the necessity of restoring macroeconomic stability and protecting public investment. Representing a group of seven African and Asian nations, Bouray advocated for close international coordination to support the mobilization of domestic resources amid global crises. He pointed out that geopolitical turmoil is exacerbating inflationary pressures and hindering growth, particularly for energy-importing nations facing fiscal and external deficits. While noting that higher energy prices may create fiscal space for Algeria and Libya to advance reforms, he highlighted the severe strain on other countries in the group. Bouray urged the IMF to provide greater clarity on financing requirements and adjustment policies, particularly for low-income countries, while reiterating the group's support for a robust, quota-based financial safety net.
