Russia and Iran reaffirm strategic partnership and challenge Western energy policies

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, in Tehran to discuss deepening bilateral ties and regional stability. Lavrov criticized the energy policies of the United States and the EU, arguing that their actions destabilized global markets. Both nations emphasized that Middle Eastern crises should be managed through diplomacy rather than force. The discussions covered ongoing economic projects, including technical cooperation at the Bushehr nuclear plant and the Rasht-Astara railway. Lavrov highlighted Moscow’s commitment to a multipolar world order and its opposition to unilateral sanctions. Araghchi pointed to U.S. military operations as a core source of regional tension. The two ministers also addressed international issues such as the conflict in Ukraine and the need for a sovereign Palestinian state, affirming their shared stance on global security.
