Washington aims to boost US energy investments in Algeria

Massad Boulos, a senior US advisor for Arab and African affairs, announced a productive meeting with ExxonMobil representatives to explore increasing American energy investments in Algeria and Libya. This effort is part of a broader strategy to strengthen economic ties and expand commercial opportunities in the region. Meanwhile, the Algerian group Sonatrach is deepening its partnership with the US major, following meetings in Houston between its CEO and ExxonMobil officials focused on hydrocarbon development. A memorandum of understanding signed in May 2024 is now being implemented, targeting exploration and resource optimization in the Ahnet and Gourara basins, with an emphasis on technology and environmental sustainability. These diplomatic and economic efforts follow a recent meeting between President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Massad Boulos, which highlighted Algeria's vital role as a key partner for regional stability and economic growth.
