Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, has proposed new initiatives to maintain and modernize the national and regional road network as part of the 2027 draft finance bill. The primary goals are to enhance service quality, improve safety, and remove hazardous spots. Key projects include maintaining the Khemis El Khechna to Boudouaou segment and rehabilitating the Bir Touta-Khemis El Khechna route, with work set to begin this November. The minister noted that the second southern bypass (Zéralda to Boudouaou) undergoes regular upkeep and that the government is tackling road deterioration caused by overloaded heavy vehicles by providing the National Gendarmerie with specialized scales. Additional plans include modernizing regional roads 02 and 05, along with studies to upgrade sections of National Road 03.
