The Algerian Sahara Blend crude oil saw a significant price increase in September 2026, reaching an average of $118.49 per barrel, a 26% surge compared to August’s $94.32. This rise marks a total gain of over $34 in just two months. Among major Arab oil benchmarks, the Algerian crude currently ranks as the most expensive, surpassing Libya’s Es Sider, the UAE’s Murban, and Saudi Arabia’s Arab Light, while remaining slightly below Nigeria’s Bonny Light within the OPEC basket. The price increase is attributed to global energy market volatility, rising maritime transport costs, and supply chain disruptions, alongside the premium quality of the Algerian light, low-sulfur crude. In line with its commitments, Algeria continues to coordinate with the OPEC+ alliance, having decided to keep production levels unchanged for November. While these higher prices could support Sonatrach's export revenues, the final economic impact remains contingent on actual sales volumes and market conditions.
