Outrage in France following alleged Islamophobic remarks on LCI

France is facing a wave of indignation after Bruno Pomart, a security consultant and former RAID police officer, made controversial comments during a live broadcast on LCI on Saturday, October 17. While discussing civil unrest related to anti-inflation protests, Pomart was accused of referring to rioters as "revolutionaries of Allah." The remarks sparked sharp criticism from political and media figures, including MP Thomas Portes and journalist Amine Snoussi, who accused him of trying to ethnicize social discontent and promote Islamophobic narratives. In response, Pomart denied the accusation on X, claiming he actually said the rioters were "revolutionaries à la Che Guevara" and that the misunderstanding was due to his pronunciation. LCI also issued a statement suggesting the comments were misinterpreted and did not align with the network's values. However, this explanation failed to satisfy critics, such as political scientist Pascal Boniface, who insisted that he clearly heard the Islamophobic phrasing and rejected the channel's justification.
