Digital Health: Oran Launches Telemedicine and Electronic Patient Transfer System
Oran has officially launched a pilot program for telemedicine and the digital management of hospital transfers. Messaoudi Mouhoub, Director General of Digitalization at the Ministry of Health, stated that the initiative aims to improve medical care and expertise exchange, especially for rare diseases. The new electronic transfer system ensures that a bed is reserved at the receiving facility before any patient is moved. The experiment currently involves the Oran EHU, the university hospital, and the Medjbeur-Tami hospital in Aïn El-Turck, with future plans to expand to Tamanrasset, Djelfa, and Naâma. Supported by nationwide fiber-optic connectivity reaching 95% of health institutions, the project also includes the implementation of electronic medical records. An overall assessment of the digitization progress is scheduled for November 15.
