The province of Bordj Bou Arreridj has become a hub for waste recovery, turning materials like plastic, cardboard, and metals into valuable economic resources. Many young people are actively involved in collecting and sorting these materials, earning a daily livelihood while supplying local industries with raw materials that reduce import dependency. Technical landfill centers in the region process hundreds of tons of waste daily, mitigating the environmental impact of illegal dumping. To further promote a green economy, local authorities have initiated a selective sorting project for households and are preparing to establish a composting facility to convert green waste and market scraps into organic fertilizer for the agricultural sector, fostering environmental protection and sustainable job creation.
