Algeria Announces National List of 424 Essential Medicines

The Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry has released the national list of essential medicines, serving as a strategic framework to ensure the availability of priority treatments for citizens. A committee of 21 experts from various ministries and national agencies, chaired by Professor Amar Tebaibia, spearheaded the drafting process. Utilizing guidelines from the World Health Organization while considering domestic health needs, the committee identified 424 medicinal substances across 22 therapeutic categories, representing 1,066 pharmaceutical products. The list will undergo periodic revisions to improve strategic planning, guide local production and imports efficiently, and bolster the nation's drug security.
