National Memory: Algeria Launches a Major Historical Project

Following the instructions of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Algeria's Ministry of Moudjahidine has launched a series of consultations with revolutionary stakeholders. The initiative aims to realize two primary objectives: organizing national conferences on memory and history, and drafting a national memory law to honor the victims of the May 8, 1945, massacres and all revolutionary martyrs. The Minister emphasized that national memory is a vital heritage for the Algerian people, requiring a unified, long-term strategy to preserve and pass on its values to future generations. This project is part of a broader set of major national initiatives led by President Tebboune. The sensitive nature of the colonial archives continues to be highlighted by incidents like the recent search of the home of French officer Romain Choron by intelligence services, triggered by his attempts to access military files concerning the Algerian War.
