GECF Summit in Moscow: Algeria and the Future of Global Gas Markets

Moscow is set to host the 8th Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) from October 25th to 27th, following the 2024 Algiers summit which produced the "Algiers Declaration." Leaders and experts will discuss energy security, infrastructure development, and the role of natural gas in the global market. The summit is expected to conclude with a joint declaration proposing new market development strategies, including the use of artificial intelligence for demand forecasting and training programs. GECF members account for 70% of global gas reserves. Meanwhile, amidst international energy market pressures, France has requested increased oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from Algeria. Statistical data highlights a notable shift, with Algerian oil exports to France reaching 138,000 barrels per day in April 2026, making France the primary destination for Algerian crude oil exports.
