Iran threatens to target internet cables in the Strait of Hormuz

Iran has issued warnings regarding the targeting of U.S.-linked technological infrastructure, specifically identifying underwater internet cables in the Strait of Hormuz. A spokesperson for the Revolutionary Guard pointed out the strategic significance of the seven major cables passing through the strait, which are essential for global data flow. Additionally, Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, warned that American data centers and artificial intelligence facilities could become targets if hostilities escalate. These threats coincide with a visit by the Pakistani army chief to Tehran to discuss mediation efforts. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed Iranian proposals to open the strait, claiming that American forces have successfully secured the vital maritime corridor.
